I'm doing a project on the Chinese and Gold rush too. The Chinese left China because they heard rumors about gold in the U.S. Also, some Americans offered money to the Chinese so that they would migrate to the U.S. Once they arrived they were sold to slaveowners, and the money they were given so that they would migrate was taken out of what little salery they had.
