    The art of tea- Chinese has been drinking tea for thousands of years and are the inventors of tea drinking and tea planting. In ancient China, tea drinking was popular from the emperor down to among the slaves, and tea was considered as one of the seven daily necessities together with firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar. Not only Chinese like to drink tea, but its neighboring tribes also learn to enjoy tea. For example, people from northern China like to add cream to tea, people from western China (Tibetans) like to add oil to their tea, and people from the south drink a salty tea. Tea can be used as a drink, as herbal medicine, or for cooking.

    The History of tea drinking- According to the legend, tea was discovered by Shen Nong (2,852-2737 B.C.), the ancient king. Shen Nong was also the founder of herbal medicine. By tasting hundreds of herbs, he was able to record their medical values. A lot of herbs were found to be poisonous, and Shen Nong used tea as an antidote.

    During the Nanbei Dynasties in 475 A.D., Damo, an Indian Buddhist monk came to China. During his visit, he was known to have meditated for nine consecutive years facing a brick wall. When he got tired, he would chew on tea leaves to stay awake.

    In 780 A.D. During the Tang Dynasty, an expert on tea drinking, Lu Yu wrote the Book of Tea. In the book, he talks about how to prepare tea, the art of drinking tea, and using tea as a herbal medicine. Lu Yu was nicknamed, the "Tea Saint".
