MuLan's actual last name was Zhu, but was better known as Hua Mulan. She was famous for joining the army in place of her ailing father. A temple was erected on the MuLan mountain in Huang Po where she was born. Another was built in Bao Ding County where the battle was fought. MuLan was awarded the title of Xiao Lie General during the Tang Dynasty (long after her death). A famous song known as MuLan Ci was composed during the Nan Bei Dynasty.
